The Mikasa under construction in 1902 at an English dry-dock. One of Japan’s most formidable ships during the Russo-Japanese War, she served as the fleet’s flagship, only to sink following a magazine fire a week after the war ended. Refloated and repaired, she would serve another two decades before being forced into retirement by the Washington Naval Treaty and becoming a museum ship.
